Store Closing!

Thank you to all my fantastic customers who made it possible and made those years awesome! You rock!
I will be clearing out all remaining inventory starting at 26% OFF (26 for the 6 years!) everything in the store! I will be adding more items periodically as I go through old stock. Get ready for some great deals, and THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

Why?

I think Spunky Kitty Style has had a good run. I'm ready to move in another direction creatively, though I'm not yet sure where that will go. I'm not disappearing completely! I adore sewing and being creative with my hands, but I'm a lab rat through and through - I always feel the most at home in a laboratory setting. Early this year I got a new job in a molecular biology lab and it's been wonderful, and I'm going to focus on that for the time being.

Spunky Kitty Style has allowed me to grow and expand my horizons. I've become more confident and comfortable with myself as a person. I am truly grateful for all of the experiences I've had, and for all of the wonderful people I've met at craft fairs and in the online indie business community. To everyone at The Switchboards: I love you! Thank you for all of the support and encouragement over the years!

To all of my customers: I love you too! Thank you for your support. I always got a little sparkle of happiness when I opened my email and got a new photo of someone wearing one of my hats! I will miss that!

THANK YOU, EVERYONE!!!

My Kitty is HOME!

Dax is now home!

But we're not entirely in the clear yet.

I didn't bother blogging it, but on Sunday we had to transfer her from the vet clinic to the ICU at the Ontario Veterinary College (where most of Ontario's vets are trained in the first place) because we were reaching the limit of how long she should be just on IV and not getting any solid food at all (she would not eat, and even vomited back up any food they syringe-fed her).

Yesterday they removed a large-ish mass from inside her stomach. It was not anything she ate, it was an icky growth. It was right at the join between the stomach and small intestine. The surgeon thinks it was acting as a one-way valve that was making her throw up and subsequently refuse to eat.

They removed it, and now it's off to hisopathology so it can be tested to see if it is cancerous or not. The surgeon thinks it "likely is", since it was freaking growing in her stomach for no reason, but we won't know for sure for a few days. In addition, they removed the mass itself, but couldn't remove most of the stomach itself (duh) which would have been needed to ensure a "clear area" of good cells removed along with the mass cells, to ensure it wouldn't grow back. So he is concerned that it might. Don't know what we will do then.

We have to limit her motion for the next two weeks; no stairs, no jumping, no running. So we cleaned up the two upstairs rooms, brought her food/water/litter up here, and bought a baby gate for the top of the stairs. I gotta admit, I never figured I'd be installing one of those in my house!

My poor baby!

Actually, not all that graphic, at least not to me. But still, not everyone needs or wants to see that, so it's under a cut.

I am very happy my kitty is home. I am worried it could be cancer and come back, which would essentially mean it was all over, since they can't remove her whole stomach. :( But for now I can pet her and comfort her and be comforted by her.

Thank you for all your kind words on my last post!

My cat is still not any better.
She's still vomiting and can't eat. She's still on IV at the vet's.
They let me visit her today. I cried.

She looks better than she did when I took her to the vet. She doesn't have that "I'm so sick and weak" expression, and her eyes are more alert. But she still looks sick, just not as weak and dehydrated, and she was very tired. She threw up again while I was there. But she refuses to drink even to get the taste of bile out of her mouth, because it might make her throw up again.

The worst part is, they still don't really know what's wrong. She's getting a blood test for pancreatitis today, but the results won't be in until mid to late next week.

Here is my baby: (under a cut because she has an IV in her front leg in the last photo. You can't really see it, but if you're sensitive to that sort of thing, you might not want to click)

Dax

Dax being cute

Dax sleeping with her tongue out

Dax today (April 20th 2007)

You know how in tearjerker movies, when a loved one is sick, someone always dramatically says they would willingly be sick in place of the loved one?
I feel that way today. I would gladly take on whatever is wrong, if it meant Dax could feel better.

-or- Resolutions, Year in Review, and Future Plans

First off, I want to apologise to anyone still waiting for a package from me! I'm a bad Kitty, and I'm sorry! ^.^;; I'm sewing my little fingers off (well, not quite, but definitely putting holes in them, ouch!) to get them out as quickly as possible.
>_<
The last few packages should be shipping out in the next few days, with an extra bonus to help make up for being late.

Every time I open my shop, I get buried in orders. I'm very flattered and it makes me feel good that people like my hats so much! ^_^ But the volume can quickly turn against me. Sometimes I’ll get more orders in a few days than I can make in a few weeks! o_0 So I automatically start out being behind. People keep writing to me saying it makes them sad when I close, or that I always close only hours before they could get online to buy a hat, so I was trying to be fair to everyone and stay open as long as possible but I kinda blew it, and I sincerely apologise.

It got to the point where I was actually considering holding a contest (for a $100 gift certificate prize, or something) to see if anyone could come up with a solution to limit the amount of orders I take, while still being fair to everyone who wanted to get a hat.
Then I realized - why not try to find a way to make everyone happy (and keep my poor little paws from getting too many puncture wounds)? So now, gentle readers, I'm in the process of revamping my order process and changing how I do things, and trying to find a helper kitten. One of my 2007 Resolutions is to greatly improve my turn around!

What I’ll do in the meantime is only offer some pre-made, ready to ship hats and… holding a fanart contest! No purchase will be necessary; I’ll be looking for a drawing of you (or your online persona) wearing one of the Spunky Kitty Style hats, and the winner will get the $100 gift certificate! ^_^ Full contest rules will follow in another post. ^_^

Happy (belated) New Year everyone!

Hang on, it may be a bumpy ride!

Today we're finally switching servers! There should be some improved functionality to the site thanks to shiny new code, and a new layout to boot! ^_^
Come check us out! We'll be taking new orders when the move is complete! ^_^

In other news, Spunky Kitty Style is one of this years "corporate" sponsors for Child's Play Charity! It's a charity run by the fellows at Penny Arcade that "lets gamers give back" to help bring some holiday gaming cheer to kids in hospitals! ^_^ Now that's something I can get behind!

10% of all holiday sales (Until December 13th) will also be donated to Child's Play!

Not only is some of my stuff still in storage, but I hate myself when I get behind on orders, and I'm not going to let that happen again.

I am currently replying to the emails that I received, so everyone who sent me a message should hear back by this evening.

Thanks again for your orders! ^_^

I'm [mostly] back!
I still need to clean the cobwebs out of the shop and make a few changes before the site returns to full operation, but due to popular demand I will be accepting a limited number of orders! ^_^
Half of my sewing supplies are still in storage, but I have enough on hand to take some orders.

If you wish to place an order, please email me at spunkykittystyle AT gmail.com with your order request, and I will let you know if I can fill it.
If I can fill your order, it means I have everything right on hand, and you hat will be mailed to you within a week! I will send you an invoice via email.

I can only accept PayPal payments for these orders (don't forget, you can pay with your Credit Card through PayPal without a PayPal account!). If I can't accept your order, please don't take it personally! The shop will be back up at full operation once I have all of my supplies available!

Please include in your email:
1. The hat style you want
2. The colour(s) you want

Again, I'm sorry about the long closure!

Thank you for all the well-wishes for my wedding! ^_^

I'm closing up the shop until we get settled. Current orders are being shipped out within the next week, but I'm not taking any new orders until I re-open since moving to a new city and starting a new job are crazy enough ^_~. I hope to be back up by September 1st, or maybe even mid-August.

Thank you for your patience and support!

Sheesh. It feels like all I do is open and close. Grrr!
Hopefully things will be fine after this final move, though. It's a permanent job, so it's not like I'll be moving a few times a year like when I was in school. The only other thing to watch out for this year is my wedding on September 23rd. I don't think I'll close the whole shop then, because we're not taking a honeymoon until next summer (because I won't be able to get any time off this September, what with starting a new job only a month before that) but I'll probably take some time off the shop around that time if need be. We'll see how busy it gets. ^_~

Attention any Canadians on this list!
Would you like to see Spunky Kitty Style attend some anime or gaming (or possibly "other") conventions this year?

I had an absolute BLAST at GryphCon a few weeks ago! It gave me a big confidence boost in my abilities that I needed, and made me want to try to attend more conventions!

I post two polls on the SKS main page, one about Anime North (May 26-28) and one about the Garden City Anime Fest (July 14-16), because they are two that I know of that are relatively close to me. Please vote in at least one of the polls if you are interested in seeing SKS at conventions in the future.
For convention visits I could do pre-orders, where you order a hat on my site and pick it up at the Con, which means you wouldn't have to pay shipping fees. Yay!
